Storage and transhipment of liquid and oil products takes place 24 hours a day in the Port of Rotterdam. Port businesses focus a lot of attention on preventing spills, but unfortunately things do sometimes go wrong and an oil or other product is spilled onto the surface water. The services of Schermenpool Rotterdams Havengebied can be engaged to minimise the consequences for the environment and economy as far as possible in the event of a spill.
Schermenpool Rotterdams Havengebied (SRH) is a foundation that aims for high environment and safety quality, which is necessary for the port’s continuity. The foundation is a partnership between the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s Harbour Master’s Division, the oil and other terminals affiliated with Deltalinqs and the Joint Fire Service.
Every year a large scale exercise is organised as well as a number of smaller exercises and familiarization moments. This is important because the SRH is rarely activated (luckily) and it is therefore necessary to keep everybody familiar with procedures and materials. In the video on the right you can view the coverage of one of these exercises. In the video you can see the close collaboration between all parties involved. Namely the Port of Rotterdam, Joint fire service, boatmen (KRVE) and terminal personnel.
