FINISED!
We are pleased to report that all the oil boom containers have received a new fresh very durable coat of paint an new covers. The last three were finished this month and are due to be filled with an oil boom rack and recommissioned.
Update:
We had hoped to be finished and to have preserved all the containers, but a small issue had arisen and we had to halt the operation. The containers could not be safely transported on the trucks because of a mandatory safety change to their loading system. This meant that the containers could not be transport any more until they also had been altered. This meant an extra investment and some delay.
After many years of service they were in need of a new coat of paint and the covers had to be replaced.
The containers have to endure a demanding climate, especially in the western part of the harbor, which they were showing. The containers were faded and the covers were deteriorating. They suffered from damage done by the sun (UV) and were in constant need of repair. The reason for having covers on the containers is a practical one. By removing the cover we are able, if needed, to fit two racks with oil booms one on-top of each other into one container.
By now 10 of the 15 containers have been treated an come back from the contractor and put in to service again.
Three of the containers have been fitted with a new type of oil boom which we had to acquire after the old ones had to be replaced following the Bow Jubail incident
